Stormy Night

Running through the stormy night
with no thought to her safety
Icy winds beat at her back
pressing her forward, urgently

Tears that mingle with raindrops
blur her sight, but no matter
No need to see of where she's been
or where she's going either

The numbness she's been feeling
has been for only a short time
But now the pain of rejection
just keeps running through her mind

Lord please, "why did he do this
how could he stop loving me
I've loved him with all my heart
please tell me how this can be”

"Maybe there's something I can do
to make things as they were before
Some answer You can give me
why he just doesn't care anymore"

Now she stands there all alone
beneath the dimmed street light
feeling wild with desperation
not unlike the dismal night

She doesn't see much future
without the man she still loves
Dropping to her knees she prays
for some answer from above

As the rain begins to lighten
and other sounds become acute
she is suddenly aware
that she is not alone, in truth

She knows all prayers are heard
then answered in His time
She needs only to hold on
then recognize the signs

He doesn't want her unhappy
or to live her life with lies
She must stop this foolish struggling
and open up her eyes

This may not be what she wants
nor what she thinks is best
Sometimes that's just the way it is
accept it now and rest

She knows God has heard her prayers
and too, that she must wait
So the tears and the sadness
like the fear can fade away
