Stone Cold Heart

Sometimes I scream and rage against
All the injustice that I feel
Fight like a hellcat, on a bad day
Just to see my point made, I will

I’ll take the blows, the bumps and bruises
If I believe that I am right
But just standing up for yourself
Doesn’t mean you enjoy the fight

I will stand against the entire world
If I believe them to be wrong
I guess it’s not so hard to understand
Why people think that I am strong

Few will bother to look inside the heart
Or hear the sound of deep pain
If they have never felt it for themselves
They think it not a valid claim

I get so tired of the need to be strong
When I know it never ends
Fighting battles that are always uphill
No one ever really wins

I feel my strength slowly slipping away
Leaving me to the abyss
Without this dark, stone-cold heart of mine
I would fade into the mist
