The Candles' Light Empty The Candles' Light

The Candles' Light

Candle flickering in the night
Casting shadows before its’ light
I sit quietly, deep in thought
Contemplating all I’ve been taught

Did it matter, even one bit
That once, when young, I honed my wit
On everyday thought and banter
I still wonder if it matters

Candlelight swaying to and fro
Wonder how far back I will go
Seems the candle shall pick the time
For I am held by a light that binds

I’ve seen my babies fully grown
I’ve watched them make lives of their own
And full of life their babies be
As they all play so happily

Each night is new, never the same
Another time, found in the flame
And in the light sometimes I see
The pictures that were surly me

Is it that I’m so very old
Or that many lives has my soul
Or am I truly as I think
Something new and therefore unique

The candle’s burned down low right now
Though its’ light still shines bright somehow
While my mind has slowed, just a bit
And by that candle, I still sit
